St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick’s Day has a magical feeling all it's own which makes planning an event around this holiday extra fun! Tap into your inner Irish, to help get into the spirit of St. Patty’s day! If you need a little inspiration, get out to any craft or party store to see all the shades of greens with glitter and shine. Before you start shopping for decorations, take a moment to think about what you like about this holiday, and that can be your springboard for the ambience of your party. If you have no idea where to begin, here are some ideas to get you headed in the right direction.

St. Patrick’s Day can cover so much… from the spirit and beauty of Ireland, to the tradition of Saint Patrick and his teachings of Christianity using shamrocks, to the fun-filled shenanigans of jokesters and a splendid good time!  Any of these components will definitely make a memorable party experience.

Choose a style or mix and match:

  1. Go for the Green! You just can't go wrong with St. Patrick's day! You can stick to all green, as there are so many shades to choose from. Mingling light greens with darks helps the scene come to life. Use a lighter color green as your tablecloth if you are spreading darker green confetti over the table, or using dark green napkins. And never dismiss a white table cloth to make things pop! White can pull everything together, and make it all look even brighter! Add splashes of gold in "coins" or candy to add to a dimensional look. If you opt for a cute tablecloth with shamrock patterns on it, use large pockets of the same color to give order to the table. Patterned plates and napkins can get "lost" on a patterned tablecloth. *Keep the theme going with green appetizers and green drinks.

  2. Rainbows for Days! One of my favorite displays included satin ribbons, each one a color of the rainbow. Place the ribbons so that they flow down the middle of the table. Use a large black "pot of gold" in the middle of the table. Fill with plastic gold coins, chocolate foil coins and bright shiny beads dripping down the sides. There are some gorgeous plastic jewels that can be spread amongst the rainbow display. Each place setting can also have a mini cauldron of "goodies" as a party favor.

  3. A Splash of Ireland! Use the colors of the flag to make your table come to life. Use even sections of green, white and orange tablecloths to represent the flag of Ireland. Use paper shamrocks to scatter around the table. Have at each place setting interesting tidbits about Ireland. Who doesn't love to learn new facts? Also, make an Irish blessing for each guest to read and take with them. Play authentic Irish music to add to the ambience. Serve some traditional Irish food, perhaps Irish stew, boxty, Irish sausages, colcannon or one everyone knows, corned beef and cabbage. Dessert can be as simple as mint chip ice cream, or lime "fluff." For the centerpiece use small Irish flags, and shiny shamrock picks fashioned in a vase made to look like a castle.
